“The art of neutral layers” – Huntington Beach, CA
City: Huntington Beach, CA
Project Type: Remodel
Room(s): Living area (downstairs), master bedroom, bathrooms (finishes)
For this project, the goal was to design a modern space with a warm, neutral palette, subtly inspired by mid-century modern interiors. The home started as a blank canvas, with previously selected light oak floors and white walls. To bring contrast while keeping things neutral, we mixed lighter fabrics with dark wood and black metal accents. Brass details add a subtle layer of warmth throughout.
As you enter, there’s a beautiful dark walnut console table with a large art piece above it, creating a simple but strong first impression.
To the left, the living area features a black fireplace that stands out against the white walls, with a glass chandelier overhead that adds a nice design touch without taking over the space. Some of the furniture here belonged to the clients, and we incorporated it into the new look.
In the kitchen, white upholstered counter chairs with brown leather accents pop against a black island. The dining area has a black wood table and two-tone chairs in different fabrics to add more depth and texture. Brass pendant lights above the island and dining table add a bit of warmth and stand out against the black-and-white theme, like little accents of jewelry in the space.
The master bedroom is cozy and more moody, with a statement wall behind the bed. Lime wash and wood paneling add layers of texture, creating a room that feels complete and thoughtfully designed.
For the bathrooms, we chose finishes that bring character to each space, like a beautiful stone vanity in the powder room and lime wash on the walls to keep things warm and inviting.
